Holiday March 20
If you want to get away from the world before Easter and after the Summer season and enjoy walking, wonderful scenery and bird life, Kelpie cottage is the place for you Linda extends a very warm welcome in this remote part of Skye and the best cottage, to date, my wife and I have ever stayed. You can enjoy seeing a golden eagle, watch sunsets over Neist Point ,see the stars. walk around a loch and if you are lucky the Northern Lights just from your front door. We ticked off some of these...so could you

Our second visit to Kelpie - Feb 2020
We've just spent a wonderful relaxing time at Kelpie cottage (our last visit being in November 2018) It was lovely to spend time with Linda & gorgeous Tess again. This visit, there was a treat in store as four lambs have arrived early. Although the weather has been a bit hit & miss, it certainly didn't stop us getting out & about, the landscape at times has had a covering of snow which in contrast with blue skies make lovely photographic memories. Linda is very knowledgeable regards places to visit & her hospitality is second to none, she's also a very talented crafter, so be sure to pop into her shop for a memento. The cottage Is a real home from home & we look forward to returning in the future. Linda we wish you all the very best for the rest of the year. With Love Gill & Paul.

Kelpie in November
I stayed at Kelpie in early November 2019, just by myself, to explore this spectacular but often neglected part of Skye and enjoy some walking and photography. Having rented many, many cottages throughout Scotland over the years, this is definitely one I would return to time and time again. I might need to book ahead though, as it is bound to become ever more popular as its reputation grows. This is partly down to the high standard of accommodation, with lots of personal touches and everything you need for a relaxing holiday. Linda is an exceptionally welcoming and friendly host, who will always be around if you want a friendly chat or advice, but who will also give you plenty of space if you want to do your own thing. She was completely unphased by my early morning ( 4.30 a.m.) starts to photograph the stars and the lighthouse at night, and indeed was interested to see the results of my endeavours. She is also a very accomplished artist, and it was great to be able to pop into her studio next to the cottage and learn about her latest creations. And as for Tess, her faithful and hard working bearded sheepdog, well she became a real friend during the week and it was so sad to have to say goodbye. Overall, Kelpie makes a great base for exploring the western side of Skye, and I would particularly recommend going off-season, when the weather can be surprisingly good and the roads are less busy. There are lots of interesting places to visit within easy walking distance, and in fact I managed without a car all week. I returned with lots of happy memories of the ever-changing light, and the genuine warmth of local people, including Linda's friends and neighbours.

Enjoing Kelpie Cottage, Kelpie Cottage genießen
I spent a week at Kelpie Cottage in June and it exceeded my expectations in many ways. First of all, Linda Jackson is a wonderful person, she would do anything for you, even if I couldn´t think of one thing I would have missed. There were so many useful details in the equipment of the cottage and one can feel that it is furnished with a lots of love and practical sense. No wonder it is very cleany and tidy.

The surroundings are fantastically beautiful. Just stunning, especially the beach you can walk to in 10 Minutes were the seals come regulary and pop up their heads and were you will find absolute peace and beauty. Not to forget the famous lighthouse on Waterstein head, that lots of people come to visit.

I warmly recommend Kelpie cottage.

Wonderful Kelpie Cottage
We spent a wonderful week at Kelpie Cottage in February. If you want a comfortable, cozy and brilliantly situated cottage for a relaxed holiday then look no further.

Kelpie Cottage is extremely well cared for. Fabulously equipped (perhaps the best equipped cottage we've stayed in and we have stayed in quite a few!) and spotlessly clean and tidy. We couldn't think of anything that Linda hadn't provided. The cottage is very comfortable and an ideal place to kick back and enjoy being in such a wonderful location.

Walking from the cottage to Neist Point is highly recommended. Linda recommended a circular walk that involved walking along the cliff tops, giving spectacular views of the Outer Islands. Truly wonderful. Ask Linda for the directions (easy to follow) and wear stout waterproof shoes.

The dark skies are just amazing. Seeing the stars and constellations without any light pollution is a joy. We both loved looking up at the stars through the bedroom skylight as we drifted off into a contented and peaceful sleep. In fact, waking up was the problem and for someone who has sleep issues, getting a good nights interrupted sleep was a real bonus.

The weather was great for 2 days but less so for the rest of the week, but this didn't stop us getting out and about. Remember that there is no such thing as the wrong weather; just the wrong clothes. Come prepared and enjoy the island whatever the weather.

Linda gave us directions to 2 church and graveyard ruins - well worth a visit. Amazing places.

Wildlife spotting is unavoidable and we saw red deer, 3 Golden eagles and over 40 grey seals. Some of the seals were basking on a small island and the rest were breaching and seemingly having great fun. Better than any TV show.

Linda is an amazing lady with probably more energy, determination and grit than anyone I know. She is friendly, welcoming, kind and so very generous with her time. We spent many special moments with her and her beloved bearded collie,Tess. The sheep are clearly much loved and very well cared for. They are so amusing and Bessie (a 15 years old Herdwick) comes when called.

As well as caring for her sheep, growing vegetables, looking after her garden and the croft, running Kelpie Cottage and lending a helping hand to her neighbours when called on, Linda is also an accomplished crafter. She runs a small shop behind the cottage that is bursting with paintings, felted pictures, felted animals, all manner of knitted items, pyrography, painter slates and stones and cross stitch pictures (I'm sure I've forgotten something!). She is, quite simply, amazing. I only wish I had half her energy!

Kelpie Cottage is a great place and we would highly recommend it. If you appreciate the natural world, like spending time in place more rooted in the present, being where mobile technology is blissfully absent (the cottage has excellent Wi-fi if you need it but no mobile reception, then Kelpie is the place for you.

Linda - thank you for your company and our many chats. It has been a pleasure to get to know you and we will definitely keep in touch. Take care. With much love to you and Tess. Julie & Kevin
